Dickerson Fuels OSU to Win No. 5
December 09, 2003 | Cowgirl Equestrian
“I want to continue on the road we are on right now,” head coach Larry Sanchez said. “The girls are riding well and gaining more experience as they go on. Our goal is still to win regionals and then go on to nationals.”
Dickerson began the day by winning the Reining B class, and following that with a win in Open Horsemanship A. The Las Cruces, N.M., native sparked what would become a 29-point day for the Cowgirls. With her win in Reining, Dickerson has now won four out of the first five competitions.
“It was a tough competition because it is right before finals,” Dickerson said. “Every member of the team rode well and we are excited about the way things went.”
With the Cowgirls' 29 points, they increased their regional lead to 30 points. West Texas A&M finished second with 19 points, while Texas A&M chipped in 17 for third. Texas Tech and Stephen F. Austin rounded out the top five with 15 and 12 points, respectively.
In just her first weekend of competing on the Western side, Whitney Holden notched a second-place finish on Saturday, and followed that up with a first-place victory today in Intermediate II.
“I am really happy with the team's performance,” Holden said. “This was my first weekend to compete in the Western division , and I am looking forward to the rest of the year.”
The Cowgirls also received wins from Cheryl Adamson, Lindsey Welsh, Natalie Hoefler and Chandy Hale.
The Western team returns to action on March 6-7 when they travel to College Station, Texas, for a pair of shows at Texas A&M.
