OSU Equestrian Hosts a Pair of Shows This Weekend
November 07, 2003 | Cowgirl Equestrian
“We are excited to get started,” Assistant Coach Suzanne Flaig said. “I am feeling good about the new people, while we will also rely on the veterans too. There are some new schools in our region this year so I am anxious to see how they will perform. This weekend should be close, but we look to finish strong and continue to perform well throughout the season.”
The Hunter Seat team is fresh off a season where they won its second consecutive regional and zone championships. The team has won three out of the four possible championships overall.
Lindsey Smith is one of the key returners for the Cowgirls. The Mountain Home, Ark., native rode her way to a national title last year, and will look to help the Cowgirls to a national championship.
The Western team is riding an 11 point advantage over Texas A&M into Sunday's show. The team is fresh off two Western shows at West Texas A&M where they won both shows, and crowned Kristin Dickerson as High Point Rider in each show.
“The confidence level is good because of the last show,” Head Coach Larry Sanchez said. “When you host a show, however, it adds another level to the performance because you are organizing everything as well as trying to focus on riding.”
OSU leads the overall standings with 63 points, while Texas A&M is in second with 52. West Texas A&M, Sul Ross State and Stephen F. Austin rounds out the top five with 41, 18 and 16 points, respectively.
