Cowboys Finish 16th at NCAA Championships
November 25, 2003 | Cowboy Cross Country & Track
Pukstas, the 2003 District V Runner of the Year, finished 11th-place individually, and scored nine team points for the Pokes, finishing the 10k course in 29:42. The Lithuania native got off to a slow start, hovering around 50th for the first part of the race, but moved up steadily to finish just outside of the top 10. It was his second top 20 finish at the meet, following his 17th-place showing last year running for Southern Methodist University.
Junior Scott Rantall was the team's second finisher, finishing the race in 30:42, good for 74th individually. He was followed closely by senior Derek Tate, who finished in 96th-place, just nine seconds behind Rantall.
Senior Jason Woolhouse, a fourth-place finisher at last week's regional meet, fell off the pace a bit this week, finishing 121st and earning the Pokes 94 team points. Redshirt freshman Tyler Campbell was the last point gainer for the team, finishing in 232nd in the 255 man field.
Stanford repeated as champions, pulling away from the 31 team field by scoring only 24 points, 150 less than second-place Wisconsin. Colorado sophomore Dathan Ritzenhein won the individual crown in 29:14. Full meet results ca be found at www.ncaasports.com.
The championship meet concludes another successful season for Oklahoma State cross country.
