Cowboys Finish Fourth at Jamboree
October 05, 2003 | Cowboy Cross Country & Track
Senior Jason Woolhouse paced the team with a fourth-place time of 24:27 on the 8K course. It was his second consecutive top-five finish in the Jamboree, after taking home a runner-up finish in last year's meet.
'Woolhouse ran well,' said Head Coach Dick Weis. 'He went out a little too fast. He pushed the pace at the beginning, but he wasn't relaxed.'
Junior Scott Rantall was the Pokes' second finisher, crossing the finish line shortly after Woolhouse in 24:46, good for 14th.
Weis had nothing but praise for Rantall, saying 'he had a super race.'
Derek Tate finished 37th with a time of 25:24, followed closely by Vish Sukmangal, who took 39th in his first race with the Cowboys. Redshirt freshman Tyler Campbell continued his successful season with a 49th-place finish.
The individual title was won by former SMU standout and current Stillwater resident Mindi Pukstas, who finished in 24:06 as an unnattached runner. Georgia edged Southeastern Conference rival and two-time defending champion Arkansas to capture the title in the 25 team field. Kansas finished third, followed by the Cowboys and 2000 Jamboree champion Abilene Christian.
Oklahoma State will be in action again in two weeks when the Cowboys travel to Fayetteville, Ark., for the Chili Pepper on October 18.
