Senior Jana Karaskova faced a difficult opponent in Sabrina Evers of Iowa State and fell by a score of 6-3, 6-2.
Junior Ines Furtmayr faced a similar hardship, falling to Maria Rosenberg of Kansas State by a score of 7-5, 6-1.
Senior Katya Kolodynska was the lone Cowgirl remaining in the main draw until she was defeated by Daniela Muscolino of Tulsa by a score of 7-5, 6-0.
“We did not do as well as we should have,” Head Coach Julius Lubicz-Majewski said. “I would have liked to see some of our individuals do better.”
All three OSU individuals were placed in the consolation bracket.
In the first round of consolations, both Karaskova and Kolodynska received a bye. Furtmayr faced Robertina Marcu of Weber State winning by a score of 8-5.
In doubles play, the senior tandem of Kolodynska and Karaskova easily moved on, defeating Tiffany Smith and Timberly Greenly of Tulsa, 8-4.
“Our doubles team did not face much of a challenge,” Lubicz-Majewski said. “Katya and Jana were able to move on against a team that they were simply more talented than.”
Sophomore Zana Masnic and freshman Lauren Simmons ended the day for the Cowgirls by falling to Missouri's Mary Berry and Erika Josbena, 8-5.
Tomorrow's play will feature the remainder of the singles consolation play as well as the next round of doubles. Play will begin at 9 a.m. at the Eccols Tennis Center.
