Cowgirl Equestrian Opens Season at West Texas A&M
October 23, 2003 | Cowgirl Equestrian
“We are very excited to start the season,” Head Coach Larry Sanchez said. “The girls have been practicing hard and have been focused on the season. With the addition of the freshmen coupled with our returners, we should be in good position to achieve the goals we have set for this season.”
The Cowgirls will compete against some of the nation's best teams in West Texas A&M and Texas A&M. The two teams tied for the national title last year. Other teams competing are Texas Tech, Sul Ross College, North Central Texas, Southern Nazarene and Stephen F. Austin.
“Having beaten the co-national champions at the Varsity National Championships proves we are where we need to be in order to win an IHSA National Championship,” Sanchez said.
OSU is fresh off a season in which they crowned an individual national champion in Lindsey Smith, and Kristin Dickerson competed against top collegiate Reiners at the NRHA Collegiate Derby where she earned second. The Western and Hunter teams combined to capture the Reserve Varsity National Championship last year.
