Equestrian Places Second at the California Classic

FRESNO, Calif. - Oklahoma State's equestrian team traveled to Fresno State this past weekend to compete in the California Classic. The classic featured six Division I varsity teams from across the nation.
In the Western discipline the Cowgirls finished first. Oklahoma State accumulated 33 points. Texas A&M was runner-up with 29 points.In the Hunter discipline the Cowgirls finished fourth with 25 points. Auburn won the division with 34 points.
"It was good to start on a good note," said head coach Larry Sanchez, "This is a good way to start the semester. Both disciplines rode well. Both have things they need to work on but I am happy with the outcome."
Auburn took home the overall championship with 62 points. The Cowgirls placed second with 58 points.
Three Cowgirls won their sections. Junior Lindsay Parker placed first in her division in Equitation Over Fences. A pair of sophomores also won their divisions. Kayla Elmenhorst took first in Horsemanship while teammate Allison Pickett placed first in her section of Equitation Over Fences.
A quartet of Cowgirls were runner-up in their sections. Audrey Buck, Kristin Dickerson, Baily Lee Nicholson and Kristen Thomas all placed second.
The Equestrian team will next be in action on Feb. 1-2 when the Hunter team will host two shows in Stillwater.
