KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Oklahoma State's softball team concluded its fall season with a third place finish at the Kansas City Tournament on Sunday.
After defeating Creighton on Saturday, the Cowgirls fell to the Bluejays, 2-0, in the first game of the day. Creighton took control from the start, as the Bluejays leadoff batter opened the game with a solo home run.
Creighton then added an insurance run in the sixth, when Sarah Seagraves hit a batter with the bases loaded.
Cami Carter took the loss, throwing the first three innings and giving up one run. Seagraves came on in the fourth and gave up the second run of the game.
Oklahoma State avoided elimination in its second game, defeating Missouri Southern, 3-0, thanks to a three-run dinger by Jade Lindly in the bottom of the fourth.
Ryan Realmuto started the inning with a double and Lauren Bay followed with a base hit to set up the play. Lindly then sent one long for the game-winning hit.
Bay was stellar from the mound against Missouri Southern, striking out 14 batters in seven innings.
In the final game of the day, the Cowgirls edged past Emporia State, 2-1, to clench third place.
Oklahoma State put a single run on the board in the first on a Ryan Realmuto double that brought Erika Ennis home. Lindly then scored what would be the game-winning run in the bottom of the second when the Emporia State catcher overthrew Ashleigh Tweed at second.
Emporia State made a late charge in the seventh with one out, but the Cowgirl defense worked its way out of the inning to secure the win.
Brooke Siebel earned the win for OSU, fanning six batters and giving up one hit in four innings. Seagraves struck out three and surrendered three hits in the final three innings.
Oklahoma State will return to action in February when it opens its spring schedule.
