Oklahoma State's softball team went 1-2 on Saturday at the Cowgirl Invitational. In both of their losses the Cowgirls fell 1-0 while picking up an 8-0 win in between.
In the opener, the Cowgirls came out on the wrong end of a shutout, falling to Navarro Junior College, 1-0. Navarro put together a string of three hits in the top of the third to bring in the lone run of the ball game.
Cami Carter threw the first three innings for Oklahoma State, striking out two batters and giving up one run. Brooke Siebel came on in relief in the fourth and held the visitors to three hits for the remainder of the contest while fanning four batters.
In the Cowgirls second game against Southwest Missouri State, Sarah Seagraves posted a shutout, giving up three hits and fanning six batters en route to the win.
The Cowgirls took an early lead and never looked back, posting one run in the bottom of the first on a base hit from Siebel.
OSU extended its lead to four in the second frame off a hit, error and two sacrifice shots.
Stephanie Hodges led off the inning with a walk and moved on a sacrifice bunt by Crystal Lee. Jade Lindly then earned the RBI, sending Stephanie Hodges home on a double.
The second sacrifice hit of the inning came from Calli Behmer and was good enough to send Lindly home. Rainey Garcia then scored the final run of the inning on a costly error by the SMS shortstop.
The Cowgirls also added a run in the fourth, two in the fifth and one in the sixth to round out the scoring.
Oklahoma State suffered its second shutout of the day in the nightcap, falling to Tulsa, 1-0. Despite the loss, Lauren Bay had a solid performance on the mound, throwing a two-hitter and striking out 11 Golden Hurricane batters.
After striking out the first batter of the game, Bay walked Stacey Walkingstick and gave up a hit over each of the corners to bring Walkingstick in for what would be the winning run. After the first inning, Bay held Tulsa hitless and never faced more than four batters.
The Cowgirls managed just three hits in the game, two in the first inning and one in the second. Tulsa pitcher, Maren Genow also stumped OSU after the second inning, facing no more than four batters in the following innings.
Oklahoma State returns to action on Thursday at 3 p.m. against Dodge City Community College for its final home game of the fall.
