LUBBOCK, Texas - Oklahoma State's softball team improved to 24-12 overall and 4-4 in the Big 12 Saturday, defeating Texas Tech, 12-1, as nine different Cowgirls crossed the plate in the game.
The Cowgirls jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, scoring two in the first, third and fifth innings before exploding for six runs in the sixth.
Jenny Kipp led off the first with a single and advanced to second on a Stephanie Hodges walk. Kipp then stole third, her second stolen base of the season. Speed was again the key, as Kipp was able to cross home plate on a passed ball. Ryan Realmuto followed with the first of three Cowgirl doubles of the game to score Hodges and give OSU an early, 2-0, lead.
Casey O'Neill started the third inning off right with a base hit, but was thrown out at second when Hodges reached on a fielder's choice. Realmuto recorded her second hit of the game, a single to move Hodges into scoring position. Jade Lindly brought power to the plate with a double and earned two RBIs with the shot.
OSU added a pair of runs in the fifth off two hits. With the bases loaded, Nicci Quiroz hit a single to score Lindly and Megan Carey rounded the bases on the next play when Kipp hit a sacrifice fly to left field.
OSU doubled its score in the sixth, scoring six runs off four hits and three Red Raider errors in the inning.
With the bases loaded, Afton Burris reached on an error by shortstop Kristi Robles and Realmuto crossed the plate. Tech aided the Cowgirl cause once again, committing an error on the next play. Lauren Bay doubled, but advanced to third on the error and three Cowgirls made it home.
Nicci Quiroz and Stephanie Hodges each provided a single to score Bay and Kipp and end the scoring frenzy.
Lauren Bay (15-8) went the distance for OSU, striking out eight and allowing one run while picking up the win.
"It was rainy and drizzly today," said Associate Head Coach Kim Ward. "But, despite the weather the team held together and played well."
Oklahoma State hits the field Sunday at noon to wrap up the series with the Red Raiders.
