Stillwater, Okla. - Oklahoma State University is expecting between 1,000 and 2,000 fans to appear in a football TV commercial it is filming in downtown Stillwater from noon - 3 p.m. this Sunday, May 5. The commercial will be shot on Main Street between Sixth and Ninth streets.
"We expect a tremendous group of extras to be on hand for what should be an exciting shoot," said Chris Hanna, OSU Director of Sports Marketing. "We will shoot the television commercial and take still shots of Coach (Les) Miles with the crowd which we may use to create posters, print ads or billboards. It will give our fans a chance to make a real impact for OSU football and give them more ownership of their team."
Hanna said fans wearing OSU's trademark orange will be moved to the front, both for the filming of the commercial and the still photos. He said fans will leave with an idea of what it's like for their favorite actors to make movies.
"We will try to get everyone out as soon as possible, but it may take the full three hours to get 30 seconds," Hanna said. "We'll take each shot several times so we have choices in editing."
Hanna said he is working in conjunction with OSU's Educational Television Services to create the television commercial. He expects the ad will run at least 100 times over the course of the spring and summer, primarily on cable. It may also find a home on OSU's web site where it may be enjoyed by fans across the country.
The ad begins with OSU football coach Les Miles walking down an empty main street. Then a few fans join in walking behind him. People flow out of the downtown Stillwater store fronts to form a large pack behind the coach. As he reaches an intersection, fans will flow onto the street from both sides to form a sea of orange behind Miles. All the while, a narrator will talk about the momentum that is building in the OSU football program.
"Visually, it will be a very powerful ad both on television and in print," Hanna said. "I think everyone who participates will leave with a very warm feeling that they helped make a difference for OSU football. When the television ad and other pieces run throughout the spring and summer, they will be able to look back on that Sunday in May and know how those pieces came into existence. It should be rewarding for everyone involved."
