FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Oklahoma State's softball team split its games in the Border War on Wednesday, falling to Arkansas, 3-0, in the first game and defeating Tulsa, 6-0, in game two.
The Cowgirls fell to the Lady Razorbacks in game one, giving up one run in the first and two in the fifth.
Tiffany Woolley reached on an error by center fielder Summer Younk to lead off the first inning and scored the winning run on a base hit by Danica White.
With two outs in the fifth, Woolley collected an RBI, knocking Julie Young home with a single. Arkansas added the final run of the game when Woolley scored on a passed ball.
Cami Carter (9-6) was saddled with the loss, giving up three runs, walking one and striking out one batter before Lauren Bay came on in relief. Bay fanned four-of-the-seven batters she faced and gave up one hit.
In the second game, OSU shutout Tulsa for the second time this year. After connecting for three hits in their last two games, the Cowgirl bats warmed up, as OSU came up with six runs on nine hits.
The Cowgirls scored their first run when Jenny Kipp led off the first inning with a base hit and moved to second on a sacrifice shot by Casey O'Neill. Stephanie Hodges came through with the game-winning hit, a single to score Kipp.
OSU extended its lead when Megan Carey led off the second inning with her first triple of the year. Carey rounded the bases on a base hit by Bay and the Cowgirls led by two.
Oklahoma State was silent until the seventh when they added four runs to the score, thanks to five consecutive five hits and an error by the Golden Hurricane.
Carey, Bay and Teresa Ritchie each collected a single to load the bases and Kipp followed with the powerful double to score Carey and Ritchie. O'Neill continued the scoring spree, sending Ritchie home with a single for the third run of the inning. An error by catcher Stephanie Sliepen allowed Kipp to cross home plate for the final run of the game.
Bay was in top form for the Cowgirls in game two, throwing a one-hitter and fanning seven batters en route to the win.
Oklahoma State (25-14) returns to action this weekend when it hosts Texas A&M at Cowgirl Stadium. The Aggies and Cowgirls will face off at 2 p.m. on Saturday and at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
