Softball Remains Undefeated After Day Two In Florida

PLANT CITY, Fla. - Oklahoma State's softball team remained undefeated in pool play here Friday in the Speedline Invitational. In the first game, OSU squeaked by with a 2-0 win over UT-Chattanooga and defeated Virginia Tech, 2-0, in game two.
In the first game, OSU got off to a quick start. Jenny Kipp led off the first inning with a double to right field and advanced to second on a Stephanie Hodges walk. Ryan Realmuto had a sacrifice hit to bring Kipp home and give the Cowgirls a 1-0 lead.
In the second inning, Calli Behmer had a base hit to reach first and advanced to second on an error by UT-Chattanooga. Summer Younk followed with a double to the left field line to score Behmer and give OSU the final 2-0 advantage.
On the mound, Lauren Bay (10-3) went the duration for the Cowgirls, striking out eight, walking one and allowing one hit.
In game two, OSU was held scoreless until the top of the third. Kipp reached on a walk and advanced to second on a base hit by Megan Carey. Realmuto followed with a three-run dinger and the Cowgirls led 3-0.
Virginia Tech's Clarisa Crowell answered in the bottom of the inning with a solo home run to pull within two.
The Cowgirls came up big in the fifth inning, scoring five runs. O'Neill led off the inning with a single and advanced to second on a base hit by Kipp. Carey reached on a walk and O'Neill scored on an error by Virginia Tech's third baseman. Kipp rounded the base paths on a fielder's choice by Hodges to put OSU up 5-0.
Realmuto hit a long double to score Carey and Hodges. Nicci Quiroz completed the inning with a RBI double to bring Realmuto home and give OSU a 8-1 advantage.
Virginia Tech posted one final run in the bottom of the inning when Megan Evans had a double and advanced to second on a base hit by Kathleen Jones. Evans scored the final run of the game on a Cowgirl error.
Cami Carter started for OSU and went five innings before Kara Wentworth came on in relief. En route to the win, Carter (5-3) had six strikeouts and allowed five hits. Wentworth had two strikeouts and gave up two hits.
Oklahoma State is 4-0 going into day three of the Speedline Invitational. The Cowgirls will face Purdue at 1 p.m. (CST) on Saturday in their final game in pool play. The tournament begins Saturday night and OSU will play at 4 p.m. or 6 p.m. in a single elimination game.
