PLANT CITY, Fla. - Oklahoma State's softball team won both games here Thursday in the Speedline Invitational. The Cowgirls defeated Northern Illinois, 8-0, and South Florida, 2-0. Pitchers, Lauren Bay and Cami Carter each had a no-hitter. The back-to-back no-hitters wera a first for Cowgirl softball.
In game one, Ryan Realmuto led off the second inning with a double to right field. Stephanie Hodges followed with a RBI bunt to score Realmuto and advanced to second on an error. Hodges scored on a Calli Behmer double to give the Cowgirls a 2-0 advantage.
Jenny Kipp led off the third inning with a home run, her second of the season. Kipp continued to have the hot hand, as she hit a three-run dinger in the fourth to bring Megan Carey and Summer Younk home. The long ball gave OSU a 6-0 lead over Northern Illinois.
In the fifth, Erika Ennis reached on an error and scored on a single by Realmuto. Teresa Ritchie had a base hit and advanced to second on a fielder's choice by Behmer. Megan Carey had the game ending hit to bring Ritchie home. Ritchie's run gave the Cowgirls a 8-0 lead and the game was called due to the mercy rule.
On the mound, Carter (4-3) threw her first no-hitter of the year. En route to the no-hitter, Carter struck out seven batters and walked one.
"Jenny Kipp had a great night with two home runs and overall our bats were hot," said Head Coach Margaret Rebenar. "We were able to get the run-rule and get back on the winning track."
In the nightcap, the Cowgirls and Bulls remained scoreless for the first four innings of play. Lauren Bay reached on a walk and advanced to second on a sacrifice hit by Behmer. Nicci Quiroz had what would prove to be the game winning hit, a single that sent Bay across home plate and gave the Cowgirls a 1-0 edge over the Bulls.
OSU added the final run in the sixth on a single by Stephanie Hodges to score Casey O'Neill
Bay (9-3) picked up the win on the mound, striking out 11 batters and walking none.
