Cowgirls Upset Pacific At Worth Invitational

FULLERTON, Calif. - Oklahoma State's softball team picked up win number 11 Saturday night here in the Worth Invitational. The Cowgirls defeated no.12 Pacific in eight innings in their first game of the day.
Oklahoma State struck first, scoring a single run in the top of the first. Jenny Kipp led off the inning with a walk and advanced to second on a sacrifice hit by Casey O'Neill. Kipp crossed the plate on a single by Ryan Realmuto to give the Cowgirls a 1-0 advantage.
Pacific tied the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the fifth on a base hit by Barbara Moody to score Brandy Thurman.
The game was still tied after seven innings and the international tie breaker followed. Kipp started the eighth inning on second and advanced to third on a bunt by Casey O'Neill. Realmuto stepped up to the plate and reached on a walk to load the bases. Stephanie Hodges reached on a second consecutive walk by Pacific pitcher, Cindy Ball and Kipp scored the winning run.
On the mound, Cami Carter started for the Cowgirls and pitched six innings. Carter struck out six batters, walked one and allowed five hits. Lauren Bay (8-1) came on in the seventh to pick up the win. Bay struck out one and walked two in two innings of work.
"It was a great battle, said Head Coach Margaret Rebenar. We had a tremendous team effort tonight."
The Cowgirls (11-3) will play 11th-ranked Oregon State at 10:30 p.m. Saturday and conclude play on Sunday against Portland State at 11 a.m. and 14th-ranked, Cal State-Fullerton at 5 p.m.
