Oklahoma State Rallies Past Kansas 10-7

STILLWATER, Okla. - Centerfielder Jeff Salazar hit a game-winning three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth as Oklahoma State defeated Kansas, 10-7, in baseball action Friday afternoon at Reynolds Stadium.
With the game tied at 7-7 in the ninth, Rob Watson started the rally with a one out walk. First baseman Ali Modami then reached on a error by Kansas pitcher Chris Jones to set up Salazar's three-run blast to right field, his second of the year.
Rightfielder Matt Tribble got Kansas on the board in the first with a two-run homer to right. He added to the Jayhawk lead with a two-run double in the second as KU held a 4-0 lead into the fourth.
Oklahoma State rallied back in the bottom of the fourth, scoring five runs on five consecutive hits to take a 5-4 lead. Third baseman Paul Powell, first baseman Zach Cates and Rob Watson all had RBI doubles in the stanza while leftfielder Jose Virgil added a RBI single.
Kansas came back to take a 7-5 lead in the sixth when designated hitter Ryan Baty hit a three-run homer off of reliever John Forrest.
OSU tied the game in the seventh without recording a hit. Watson and Toby Rhodes both walked to lead off the inning. Salazar proceeded to advance the runners on a sacrifice bunt and Watson then scored on a RBI groundout by Kenny Hansley. Rhodes came home on an error by the KU first baseman Kevin Wheeler to tie the game at 7-7.
Third baseman Paul Powell led the Pokes with a 2-for-4 day at the plate to raise his conference batting average to .478 in six games.
Reliever Shane Hawk pitched 1.2 innings of one-hit scoreless ball to move to 2-3 on the year.
Oklahoma State won its third straight game and improved to 18-7 overall and 4-3 in Big 12 play while KU drops to 12-10 and 1-6 in conference play.
The teams will be back in action Saturday at 2 p.m. in the second game of the three-game set. Sophomore Scott Baker is scheduled to take the mound for OSU, while right hander Jeff Davis is slated to start for Kansas.
