Oklahoma State's women's equestrian team advanced six riders to the zone championships last weekend at the Regional Championships, hosted by West Texas A&M University.
"We felt like we had a good number qualify," head coach Larry Sanchez said. "We are a little disappointed that we didn't qualify more, but, overall, we are happy and are looking forward to hosting zones on April 13."
To qualify for zones a rider must finish in the top three in their respective class. OSU had three riders capture regional championships to advance to the zone championships, with three others advancing after finishing in the top three of their class.
Sophomore Lindsay Pounds advanced by winning the Open Flat, while juniors Emily Hoaglan and Sarah McVay won the Walk Trot and Novice Flat divisions, respectively.
Western rider Chandy Hale advanced after finishing second in Intermediate, while sophomores Corrie Janssen and Crissy Meeks each finished third in the Open Fences and Open division, respectively, to advance.
The Cowgirls will return to action on Saturday, April 13, as they host the Zone Seven Championships at the Animal Science Arena in Stillwater, Okla.
