Oklahoma State Rallies Past UC Riverside 8-6

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Josh Fields' singled home the game winning run in the eighth inning as Oklahoma State rallied past UC Riverside, 8-6, Monday afternoon at the Riverside Sports Complex.
With the game deadlocked at 6-6 in the eighth, shortstop Rob Watson led off the inning with a walk and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Jeff Salazar. Watson advanced to third on a balk by UC Riverside pitcher Drew Murphy and then scored on Fields single up the middle. Third baseman Paul Powell followed with a triple to centerfield scoring pinch runner Brian Kraft from third to give the Cowboys an 8-6 lead.
Reliever John Forrest picked up his first win at Oklahoma State with 4.2 innings of scoreless relief. Starter Jimmy Rhodes had four innings of work and gave up five runs, three earned, off of five hits with three strikeouts.
Oklahoma State finished the California trip with three wins to improve to 5-0 on the year while UC Riverside fell to 7-5.
The Highlanders opened the scoring with two unearned runs in the first inning before the Cowboys came back with a run in the second and five in the third, keyed by catcher Matt Oakes three-run homer to left.
OSU had a 6-2 lead disappear as UCR rallied for a run in the third, two in the fourth and another in the fifth to tie the score at 6-6.
Oklahoma State will be back in action this weekend as they travel to Shreveport for a three-game tournament. The Cowboys will open with Cal State Northridge on Friday, Feb. 22 at 4 p.m.
