AMES, Iowa - Oklahoma State's soccer squad suffered its first defeat of the season on Friday, falling to Iowa State, 2-1, at the ISU Soccer Complex.
Ten minutes proved to be the downfall of the Cowgirls undefeated season, as Iowa State scored a goal in the opening and closing minutes of the contest.
The Cyclones first goal came at the 3:12 mark when ISU's Kelly Burke scored her first goal of the season on an assist from Deb Benakis.
It did not take the Cowgirls long to regroup and Jere Boykin scored her third goal in two games 12 minutes later.
The junior upped her season goal total to a team-leading six and pulled the Cowgirls within one on an unassisted goal at the 15:51 mark.
The Cowgirl offense could offer no more and the Cyclones were able to pick up their first conference win in the waning minutes of the contest on a Benakis goal with under four minutes to play.
Oklahoma State was outshot by Iowa State 12-9, managing just three shots in the first period.
Burke's goal was the first the Cowgirls have surrendered since the Arkansas contest on Sept. 15. It was also the first time OSU has surrendered more than one goal, having given up just four in the previous 10 contests.
Oklahoma State (10-1, 2-1) returns to the Cowgirl Soccer Complex to host East Central at 4 p.m. on Monday.
