Cowgirl Softballers Earn Academic Honors

STILLWATER, Okla. - Five Oklahoma State softball players were named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Scholar Athlete list for the 2001-2002 academic year.
Players receiving the honor are required to have a 3.5 grade point average for the spring and fall semesters.
Outgoing senior and OSU Female Athlete of the Year Jenny Kipp received the honor for the second year. A native of Gilbert, Ariz., Kipp was a three-year starter for the Cowgirls at third base and will graduate in December with a double major in journalism broadcasting and marketing.
Four Cowgirls; Lauren Bay, Mandy Bratten, Megan Carey and Erika Ennis, earned the distinction for the first time.
Bay returns for her final season at Oklahoma State after posting record numbers last year. Bay fanned 314 opposing batters to take over the top spot in the record books for season strikeouts. The Trail, British Columbia, native is pursuing a degree in general business.
Junior Mandy Bratten saw limited action her freshman season and was sidelined last year by injury. The Taloga, Okla., product is undecided on her major at Oklahoma State.
Sophomore Megan Carey played in 46 contests as a freshman and earned 43 starts as a designated player and outfielder. A native of San Diego, Calif., Carey is majoring in education.
Rounding out the list is Edmond, Okla., native Erika Ennis. The sophomore saw action in 25 games last season and is majoring in chemical engineering at Oklahoma State.
