Stillwater, Okla. - Oklahoma State's Cowgirl softball team will open the fall portion of its 2001-02 schedule this Wednesday afternoon as OSU hosts Northern Oklahoma College in a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m. at Cowgirl Stadium.
The Cowgirls are coming off a 28-23 season last year that saw OSU win eight of its last 11 games. Oklahoma State returns virtually the entire roster, including All-Big 12 members Lauren Bay, Ryan Realmuto and Jenny Kipp.
Bay finished last season with a 15-11 record on the mound and a 1.25 earned run average. She also had 190 strikeouts in 173-2/3 innings. Tiffany Paper-Foreman returns for the Cowgirls as well, and is nearly 100 percent following shoulder surgery at the end of last season.
Bay was also the leading hitter a year ago for OSU, with a .300 batting average. Realmuto batted .279 with a team-leading 11 doubles and six home runs.
Rebenar, in her first year as head coach of the Cowgirls, is a 22-year veteran at OSU. She is assisted by associate head coach Kim Ward, assistant coach Eric Whitley and volunteer assistant coach Lezli Leathers.
The Cowgirls will continue fall scrimmage action this weekend as they compete in the Oklahoma Shootout, hosted by the Amateur Softball Association in Oklahoma City at Don E. Porter/ASA Hall of Fame Stadium.
