16th-ranked Cowgirl Tennis to Host Regional

Oklahoma State's women's tennis team will be one of the 16 teams to host a regional in this year's NCAA Championships.
The Cowgirls received the top seed in the regional by winning the Central Region. OSU will take on fourth-seeded Oral Roberts at 2 p.m., while Wake Forest, the second seed, will take on Illinois State, the third seed, at 10 a.m., at Oak Tree Country Club on May 12.
OSU is coming off a 22-4 season, highlighted by a 17-match winning streak and tying Texas for Big 12 Champions with a 10-1 conference record.
In the Big 12 Tournament, the Cowgirls won its first two games before fallin gin the finals to Texas.
"This year has been unbelievable," head coach Julius Lubicz-Majewski said. "The last four years have been disappointing. This year the girls have really put effort in all their matches and went out and played their best."
The Cowgirls and Golden Eagles have met nine times previously, with OSU winning six of the matches. This will mark the first time the two have met in post-season play.
"ORU is a quality team and we cannot look past them," Lubicz-Majewski said.
Wake Forest enters the tournament with a 16-8 record and 7-1 in the ACC. The 20th-ranked Demon Deacons won its first two games in the ACC Tournament before losing to Duke in the finals.
OSU has never played Wake Forest but leads the all-time series against Illionis State, 1-0.
ORU (13-10 overall) recently won their fourth straight conference title to garner the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Illinois State won its conference tournament earning the automatic bid and are riding a 13-match winning streak and a national rnaking of 62.
Senior Maria Galoustova-Phillips was selected to play for the individual championship in Stone Mountain, GA, on May 17. Phillips and junior Ashleigh Dolman were selected to play for the doubles championship, also in Stone Mountain on May 17.
The winner of the regional will move on to the Round of 16 in Stone Mountain on May 17.
