Oklahoma State Splits in NCAA Baseball Regional

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Oklahoma State's baseball team fell to Tulane 13-10 in the first game, but defeated Mississippi 16-7 to advance to the championship game of the NCAA regional in New Orleans, La.
The Cowboys pounded out 19 hits and scored 16 runs in the contest, marking the most ever scored against Ole Miss in postseason play.
Ole Miss (39-23-1) took an early lead, scoring three runs of OSU starter Mike Miller, but the Cowboys answered with two runs in the next frame to trail by one run.
The Rebels added another two runs in the top of the second inning, but the Cowboys also added a pair to bring the score to 5-4.
Oklahoma State (42-21) broke the game open in the home half of the third inning as Luke Scott's 19th home run of the year sailed over the right field wall, scoring two runs and putting the Cowboys ahead 6-5.
The Cowboys then added four runs in the fourth inning to take a 10-5 lead.
Ole Miss scored two runs off Cowboy reliever Jimmy Rhodes, a lone run in both the fifth and the seventh innings. Oklahoma State continued it's offensive onslaught with five runs in the sixth and a lone run in the seventh inning.
Rhodes picked up the win for the Cowboys, allowing only two hits in seven innings and scattering five hits.
Jimbo McAuliff led the Cowboys offensively, going 4-for-6 in the second game and 8-for-11 on the day. He also had a string of six consecutive hits across the two games, including a home run and a triple. Luke Scott and Zach Cates each went 3-for-5 in the nightcap. Scott also added his 19th and 20th home runs of the season in the game.
In the first game, Tulane broke open a 10-10 tie in the top of the ninth inning when a pinch-hit single by Aaron Feldman plated two batters. The Green Wave added another run in the visitor half of the inning to win the game 13-10.
Shane Hawk got the loss for the Cowboys, pitching the final three innings and allowing three runs.
McAuliff also led the Cowboys in the first contest, going 4-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs. Jose Virgil went 3-for-3 with two runs scored, and Luke Scott was 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored.
Oklahoma State will face Tulane again Sunday at 1 p.m. in the championship game. If the Cowboys win the first game, the if necessary game will be played at approximately 5 p.m.
