Cowboys Fall to Tulane in Regional Championship

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Oklahoma State's baseball season ended in the championship game of the NCAA regional today as the Cowboys fell to Tulane by a 9-8 score.
With the win, Tulane improves to 53-10 on the season and will advance to next weekend's NCAA super regionals. Oklahoma State falls to 42-22 on the year.
The Cowboys took a one run lead in the first frame as Nebasett Brown singled to left and scored on an RBI single by Jake Bollig.
Tulane tied the game with an unearned run in the bottom of the second.
Oklahoma State put up five runs in the top half of the third inning. Brown got things started for the Cowboys with a double to right field. Jose Virgil and Bollig were then issued back-to-back free passes, and Luke Scott's double to right field plated three runs. Zach Cates and Ali Modami hit back-to-back RBI singles, giving the Cowboys a five-run lead.
Jimbo McAuliff led off the fourth with a single and scored on Virgil's chopper to the shortstop to make the score 7-1 in favor of the Cowboys.
Tulane answered by spreading six runs across the next four innings to tie the game 7-7. The Green Wave then put up two runs in the bottom of the eighth on a two-RBI single to right field by James Jurries to take a 9-7 lead.
Paul Powell led off the top of the ninth with his tenth homer of the year, a solo shot to center field, to bring the final score to 9-8.
Nick McCurdy made his second appearance in the tournament and received the loss for the Cowboys in relief. Freshman Joe Weaver also made his second appearance of the weekend as he got the starting nod and pitched six innings, allowing five runs and scattering seven hits.
Brown led the Cowboys offensively, going 4-for-5 with a double and two runs scored.
McAuliff was named to the All-Tournament team for his performance in the tournament. He batted .450 (9-for-20) on the weekend with a triple, a home run, and three RBI. He also scored eight runs for the Cowboys.
