Oklahoma State's women's tennis team got back on the winning track by defeating Oral Roberts on Saturday during the first round of the NCAA Tournament at Oak Tree Country Club.
The Cowgirls cruised to a 4-0 victory over the Golden Eagles by winning two of the three doubles matches and three of the six singles matches.
"We knew it wasn't going to be an easy match," head coach Julius Lubicz-Majewski said. "We came in flat and didn't play well at all. Maria (Phillips) was hurt so we had to move everybody up."
Junior Dominika Olszewska and sophomore Kate Vasylyeva recorded the first victory for the Cowgirls at the No. 3 doubles position by defeating Elizabeth Middleton and Janou Meens, 8-1.
Sophomore Linda Faltynkova and freshman Katarzyna Kolodynska continued their unbeaten streak by defeating Rachel Budd and Jennifer Helm, 8-2, at the No. 2 doubles position, notching the first team point for OSU. The tandum upped its mark to 25-0 with the win.
Faltynkova recorded her 22nd victory of the season by defeating Clair Waltman, 6-1, 6-1, earning the second team point.
OSU built a 3-0 lead when Olszewska downed Marlana Macioelk, 6-2, 6-1, at the No. 1 position.
The contest was closer than the score indicated as ORU was in front of the two remaing matches. ORU's Budd was leading Kolodynska, 2-1, in the third set at the No. 3 spot, while Lindsay Patterson led Cameron Stoudt, 3-1, in the third set at the No. 6 position.
However, OSU's Ashleigh Dolman clinched the victory by defeating Barbara Urnaiak, 6-3, 6-1, at the No. 5 spot.
OSU moves into the second round on Sunday against Wake Forest at Oak Tree. The match is slated to start at 12 p.m.
