Stillwater, Okla. - Oklahoma State pitcher Lauren Bay threw a near-flawless game, scattering three hits while striking out seven and walking just one as the Cowgirls defeated the Missouri Tigers, 4-0, here Saturday afternoon at Cowgirl Stadium. Bay did it at the plate as well, going 2-for-3 and scoring two of OSU's four runs.
With the win, Oklahoma State broke a four-game losing streak, its longest of the season. The Cowgirls also ended a 38-inning scoring drought when Bay scored in the bottom of the first on a sacrifice fly by senior Amanda Hayes.
Bay led off with the inning with an infield single, and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Jenny Kipp who reached on an error and advanced to second. Hayes' sacrifice fly plated Bay and two groundouts ended the inning.
The Cowgirls attacked again in the third when Bay walked, and went to second on a Kipp single. With two outs, Ryan Realmuto hit a liner up the middle to score Bay.
Teresa Ritchie led off the fourth inning with a double to right center. After moving to third on a Danielle Thomas sacrifice bunt, Ritchie scored when Angela Veronesi hit a base wrap up over second base.
OSU scored its final run in the sixth. Thomas led off with a base hit, and stole second base. With two outs, Bay hit a fly ball that bounced off the top of an outstretched centerfielder's glove, scoring Thomas.
Oklahoma State (19-15 overall, 4-4 Big 12) will host the Tigers (22-20, 2-5) on Sunday at 1 p.m. The Cowgirls will then take a break from conference action as they host the Border War series with Tulsa and Arkansas on Wednesday, April 11, beginning at 3 p.m.
