College Station, Texas - Oklahoma State's Ryan Realmuto broke a scoreless tie in the top of the seventh with her team-leading fifth home run of the season to give the Cowgirls a 1-0 victory over the 23rd-ranked Texas A&M Aggies. The win moves Oklahoma State to 23-21 overall, 7-8 in the Big 12. A&M falls to 30-16 overall and 7-10.
Aggie starting pitcher Jessica Slataper (8-6) and Cowgirl starter Tiffany Paper (5-7) each carried no-hitters into the fifth inning. Realmuto opened the top of the fifth with a single to left to break up Slataper's no-hit bid, and A&M's Lindsay Wilhelmson stopped Paper's no-hitter with a single to center in the bottom of the fifth.
Both starters went the distance with Slataper striking out 10, walking one and allowing only two hits. Paper struck out eight, walked one and gave up only three hits.
The Aggies had a scoring opportunity in the sixth, but the Cowgirls killed the rally. Lisa Klam walked with one out and then moved to second on Hollee Hayden's sacrifice bunt. Kelly Ferguson followed with a single to left, but Klam was gunned at the plate by Cowgirl left fielder Amanda Hayes to end the threat and the inning.
The same two teams meet again on Sunday at the Aggie Softball Complex, with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
