Cowgirls Split Pair Of Games At Red Desert Classic

ST. GEORGE, Utah -- Oklahoma State's softball team lost to ninth-ranked Stanford, 6-4, before defeating the Utah State Aggies, 2-0, here Friday afternoon in the first day of the Red Desert Classic. Both games were played after a two-hour delay due to poor field conditions.
Against Stanford, Oklahoma State fell behind, 5-0, thanks to seven Cowgirl errors before a bases-loaded double by Lauren Bay cut the lead to two at 5-3. Freshman Jade Lindly followed with a double of her own, plating Bay and cutting the lead to one entering the bottom of the sixth. The Cardinal scored one run in the sixth for the final score.
Bay threw a complete game, striking out 12 Stanford batters. Dana Sorensen struck out 13 Cowgirl batters for Stanford.
In the second game, Cowgirl hurlers Sarah Knife Chief and Tiffany Paper combined for a three-hit shutout of the Utah State Aggies, 2-0. OSU junior Nicci Quiroz went 1-for-2 with an RBI and freshman Danielle Thomas went 1-for-2 with a run scored and two stolen bases.
Oklahoma State, now 7-7 overall, will play Utah at 1 p.m. CST and Brigham Young at 3 p.m. The Cowgirls will conclude the tournament with a game vs. Cal-Santa Barbara on Sunday at noon.
