STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State hurler Lauren Bay gave up just one hit and struck out eight as the Cowgirls defeated NAIA top-ranked Oklahoma City, 2-1, here Friday afternoon in softball action at Cowgirl Stadium.
OCU started the scoring off early as the Stars manufactured a run off just one hit. Tiffany Kissee was hit by the first pitch of the game, and reached second on a sacrifice bunt by Stacey Polonich. Jessica Oleson then had the only base hit of the game, moving Kissee to third. Kissee then scored on an attempted double steal before Oleson was tagged out racing for second.
OSU put its first run on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third when Lezli Leathers walked, followed by consecutive base hits by Jenny Kipp and Amanda Hayes, scoring Leathers. Hayes was caught trying to extend her hit into a double to end the inning.
After two more score less innings, Oklahoma State scored the winning run in the sixth when Hayes scored on a sacrifice fly by Bay.
Hayes went 2-for-3 in the game with a run and an RBI, while Kipp and freshman Jade Lindly each went 1-for-2.
Oklahoma State (15-9) will take the weekend off before traveling to Tulsa, Okla., next Tuesday to face the Tulsa Golden Hurricane at 3 p.m.
