Cowboys Roll Past Western Illinois 15-3

STILLWATER, Okla - Oklahoma State's eleventh-ranked baseball team won its eighth consecutive game Wednesday afternoon, dropping Western Illinois 15-3 in a seven-inning contest at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.
With the win, the Cowboys swept the two-game series from the Leathernecks and moved to 18-3 on the season, while WIU dropped to 0-14.
Western Illinois took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when lead-off man Dominic Gusso scored on a ground out by leftfielder Bob Tomanich.
The Cowboys tied the game in the third on Toby Rhodes' RBI single and went out in front on Zac Cazzelle's two-run homer. OSU would plate two more in the inning to take a 5-1 lead.
The Leathernecks bounced back with two more runs in the third before the Cowboys put the game out of reach with seven of their own in the bottom half of the inning. In the inning, Luke Scott continued his torrid pace with his fourth home run in five games, giving him nine on the season. Scott wrapped up the two-game set with eight RBIs and four hits in seven trips to the plate.
In the fifth inning, Cazzelle added two more RBIs, doubling off the rightfield fence to drive in Rhodes and Jos? Virgil.
OSU righthander Justin Meccage pitched four innings, giving up three runs and two hits to pick up the win in his Cowboy debut. Dave Caravelli took the loss for WIU.
The Cowboys will return to action this weekend when conference rival Texas comes to town for a three-game series. OSU and the Longhorns will start the series Friday with a 3 p.m. contest.
