STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's baseball team ran its winning streak to seven games with a 22-6 triumph over Western Illinois on Tuesday afternoon before 1,324 at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.
After outscoring its opponents 56-12 over the weekend, the Cowboys (17-3) continued their offensive barrage against the Leathernecks. OSU tallied 22 runs on 19 hits and took advantage of six WIU errors.
The Leathernecks (0-13) scored two runs in the top of the first inning off of righthander Darren Heal, who worked three innings in his first career start for the Cowboys.
OSU countered with eight runs in the bottom of the inning, which included a pair of hits and a RBI by second baseman Nebasett Brown.
The Cowboys increased the cushion to 12 runs with a six-spot in the second inning. Luke Scott led off the inning with his eighth home run of the season. The shot over the rightfield wall was the outfielder's third in four games.
Scott, a senior from DeLand, Florida, finished the day 2-for-3 with two runs scored and four RBIs, while designated hitter Jos? Virgil chipped in with three hits, including a home run, and four runs batted in.
OSU tacked on six more runs in the bottom of the fourth and single runs in the sixth and seventh frames.
Cowboy freshman Joe Weaver upped his mark to 3-0 on the season, striking out three in three innings of work, while Nathan Rueter took the loss for the Leathernecks.
The two teams will close out the two-game series tomorrow at 3 p.m.
