Oklahoma State's women's tennis team started off the spring season with a victory over Northern Iowa, 4-2, on Sunday in Oklahoma City.
"The first match is always the toughest no matter who you play," head coach Julius Lubicz-Majewski said. "I am glad to get it over with and I can tell that we need more practice before the next match."
Leading the way for the Cowgirls was the nation's 49th-ranked player Dominika Olszweska. Olszweska, a junior from Pabianice, Poland, defeated Jess Landes in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0.
"We played really well considering we had two girls sick," Lubicz-Majewski said. "It's hard to play consistently when you play a little indoor and outdoor."
Sophomore Linda Faltynkova smoked Amie Crowley at the no. 3 position in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0, while freshman Katarzyna Kolodynska downed Kendra Lindenew at the no. 4 position, 6-1, 6-2.
Faltynkova and Kolodynska started off the doubles action by blanking Kylene Wong and Amie Crowley 8-0. Sophomore Erin Pauchnik and Olszweska followed suit by defeating Fleur Muysson and Carrie Amsbaugh 8-3.
The Cowgirls return to action next weekend when they travel to Arlington, Texas to take on Tulane and Texas-Arlington.
