Cowgirls Host Spring Classic

Oklahoma State plays for the first time this season in the friendly confines of Cowgirl Stadium as the Cowgirls host the Spring Classic, Feb. 23-25, in Stillwater. Other teams competing in the tournament are Creighton, Evansville, Ole Miss, Southwest Missouri State and Tulsa. The schedule is set up for four games on each of three days. Evansvilleand SMS will not compete on Friday, Oklahoma State and Tulsa will not compete on Saturday and Ole Miss and Creighton will not compete on Sunday. Oklahoma State annually hosted a tournament from 1989-98, but the construction of the new Stadium put the classic on hiatus for both 1999 and 2000.
COMING UP
Oklahoma State will travel to St. George, Utah, next weekend to compete in the Red Desert Classic, hosted by the University of Utah. OSU will play Stanford (1 p.m.) and Utah State (3 p.m.) on Friday, Utah (1 p.m.) and Brigham Young (3 p.m.) on Saturday and UC-Santa Barbara (noon) on Sunday. The following week, the Cowgirls will compete in the Speedline Invitational in Tampa, Fla., hosted by the University of South Florida.
TEAM-BY-TEAM CAPSULES
All six teams in this weekend's tournament have played this season. Two of the teams - Tulsa and Creighton, competed in the OU/adidas Classic last weekend in Norman. The other three - Ole Miss, Evansville and Southwest Missouri State, competed in the Rebel/Easton Invitational in Oxford, Miss. WHO'S HOT
Stephanie Hodges - The sophomore first baseman is batting .364 through 10 games this season, going 8-for-22. She has a .533 on-base percentage, and leads the team with seven walks. She also has three sacrifice hits.
Ryan Realmuto - The sophomore catcher is batting .355 this season with 11 hits in 31 at-bats. She leads the team in doubles with three, and her 11 hits are a team high. Batting mostly in the cleanup spot, she has six RBIs this year. She also has a pefect fielding percentage in 70 chances behind the plate.
Lauren Bay - The sophomore pitcher missed the first weekend of play due to an arm injury, but she came back in full force this past weekend in Arizona. Despite a 1-2 record, the southpaw struck out 29 batters in 23 innings, including a 13 strikeout performance vs. Bowling Green in a one-hit shutout. She also has a 1.52 earned run average.
