Equestrian team wins two of three hunt seat shows

CANYON, Texas -
Oklahoma State's Cowgirl equestrian team won two of its last three hunt seat shows of the season today at the West Texas A&M show in Canyon, Texas.
The Cowgirls won the first show on Friday afternoon by a five point margin before placing third on Saturday morning. Oklahoma State won the second show of the day by 11 points.
With these wins, Oklahoma State finished second overall in the region, just two points behind regional champion Texas A&M. However, 20 riders qualified for the regional show.
Sara McVay led the Cowgirls on the weekend, picking up high point rider honors in the Friday show and reserve high point rider honors in the first show on Saturday. She won both the novice over fences class and the novice flat classes on Friday, and won the novice flat class on Saturday.
In the show on Friday, Amber Burnett won her section of the intermediate flat class and Sheila Dohmann won her section of the class.
In the first show today, Audrey Buck was the open fences champion, and Jennifer Baughman placed first in the novice flat class. Casie Cavanaugh added a win in the beginning walk-trot-canter class.
In today's second show, Kate Hayes shared reserve high point honors with Sara McVay, winning the novice fences class. Jennifer Lynn was the open fences champion, Jamie Ward won the open flat class, and Kelli Combs placed first in intermediate flat. Erin Hale added a win in the advanced walk-trot-canter class, and Casie Cavanaugh won the beginning walk-trot-canter class.
The Cowgirls will be back in action March 3 as they travel to College Station, Texas for the Zone 7, Region 2 Show.
