Cowgirls Defeat Texas A&M Aggies, 83-63

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Oklahoma State's Kara Faulk scored a team-high 21 points and pulled down 14 rebounds as the Cowgirls defeated the Texas A&M Aggies, 83-63, here Tuesday night before 1,498 fans in Reed Arena. It was Faulk's fourth double-double of the season as she scored all 21 points in the second half.
Jaynetta Saunders, the Big 12's leading scorer, put 30 points on the scoreboard for A&M. However, Oklahoma State stopped the rest of the team, allowing no other Aggie to score in double figures. Saunders had 31 vs. Oklahoma State in the Cowgirls' 85-69 win in Stillwater last month.
Neither team led by more than six points in the first half, and after trailing, 30-24, with 2:18 remaining, Texas A&M went on a 7-0 run to take a 31-30 lead into the lockerroom.
OSU took the lead at the 17:33 mark of the second half and never trailed again. A&M tied the score once at the 13:19 mark at 42-42, but the Cowgirls scored 41 points down the stretch for the win. The Oklahoma State bench outscored Texas A&M's bench, 34-10.
Oklahoma State shot 44.1 percent for the game, including 50 percent (18-of-36) in the second half. Meanwhile, the Cowgirls limited A&M to just 37 percent shooting in the game, including 31 percent (13-of-42) in the final period.
OSU finished with four players in double figures. Junior Jessica Bates scored 16 points off the bench, while sophomore Chantoya Hawkins chipped in 10 points and dished out seven assists. Sophomore Shelby Hutchens scored 10 points and pulled down seven boards.
Oklahoma State (13-10 overall, 5-7 Big 12) will host the 18th-ranked Texas Longhorns (18-7, 6-5) on Saturday, Feb. 17, at 7 p.m. in Gallagher-Iba Arena.
