STILLWATER, Okla. -- Oklahoma State's Cowgirl equestrian team scored 24 points today at the Animal Science Arena to place second in the second of three shows this weekend.
Kansas State was the winner with 26 points, and West Texas A&M placed third with 20 points. Texas A&M finished fourth in the show with 17 points on the day.
"Overall, I'm happy with the way we performed," head coach Larry Sanchez said. "We had a lot of riders qualify for the regional show again today, and I hope that we can get even more qualified in tomorrow's show."
The Cowgirls were led by Meghan Walentine, who received high point rider honors for the second day in a row. She placed third in the open reining class and won her section of open horsemanship.
Amber Higgins was the champion in her section of advanced II horsemanship, and Ryan Read added a win in her section of open horsemanship. Natalie Doss placed first in her section of intermediate II horsemanship, and Emily Hoaglan won the beginning walk trot class. Erin Hale was the intermediate I horsemanship champion.
The Cowgirls will be back in action tomorrow at the Animal Science Arena in the final western show of the season. The show will begin at 8:30 a.m., and admission is free to the public.
