Oklahoma State's women's equestrian team had seven members capture first-place titles last weekend at the Oklahoma State Hunt Seat shows.
The Cowgirls finished Saturday in third place with 20 points. Kansas State and Texas A&M placed first and second with 29 and 27 points, respectively.
"Saturday was a disappointment," assistant coach Suzanne Flaig said. "We made some mistakes and we didn't ride as good as we had hoped."
Sophomore Corrie Janssen placed first in Open Fences, senior Natalie Dolan recorded a first-place finish in Advanced Walk-Trot-Canter, and junior Emily Hoaglan finished first in Walk-Trot-Canter.
OSU entered Sunday's show tied with Texas A&M for first place with 115 points, while Kansas State was in second place with 113 points.
"The competition this weekend was tough," Flaig said. "I am proud of the way our girls rose to the occasion. I saw some encouraging things on Sunday with the newcomers."
The Cowgirls had four members record first place finishes on Sunday en route to a tie for first place with Kansas State.
OSU and Kansas State each finished with 28 points, while Texas A&M finished in second with 27 points.
With the Cowgirls' first-place finish, they remain atop the standings with 143 points. Texas A&M and Kansas State are tied for second with 142 points.
Junior Emily Harrison captured first in Intermediate Fences, junior Sarah McVay finished first in Novice Fences, while freshmen Amber Blythe and Christina Reynolds took first in Advanced Walk-Trot-Canter.
"Hopefully we will be able to go into the spring with the confidence we need in order to attain our goal in sending the Hunt Seat team to nationals," Flaig said.
With Janssen's second-place finish in Open Fences, she qualified for regionals with three shows remaining. Janssen hasn't finished below second place yet this year and was the first to qualify for regionals in her division.
McVay qualified for regionals in Novice Fences, while senior Natalie Dolan qualified in Advanced Walk-Trot-Canter.
Senior Kate Hays, junior Amber Higgins and McVay have all qualified for regionals in Novice Flat.
The Cowgirls' Hunt Seat team will return to action on Feb. 16 and 17 when it travels to Texas A&M for a pair of Hunt Seat shows. OSU will host a pair of Western Shows on Feb. 2 and 3 at the Animal Science Arena.
