COWGIRLS HOST BERTHA TEAGUE TO KICK OFF REGULAR SEASON
Oklahoma State will begin the regular season against a pair of in-state
foes this weekend at the Bertha Teague Memorial Classic in Stillwater. The
Cowgirls will host Tulsa on Saturday at 6 p.m. and Oral Roberts on Sunday at
6 p.m at Gallagher-Iba Arena.
In last year's matchup with TU, OSU went on a 20-0 run in the second half to make up a nine-point deficit and secure a 68-57 win.
In its second game, OSU squared off with Oral Roberts in a battle that went down to the wire. Then-freshman Trisha Skibbe's putback with 0.1 seconds on the clock sent the game into overtime. The Cowgirls poured in 13 points in the extra frame to come away with a 71-63 win.
Saturday's tilt will be the first of the regular season for Tulsa as well. The Golden Hurricane split a pair of exhibition games against Spartak Moscow, a 79-56 win, and the Houston Jaguars, a 69-55 loss.
ORU enters the weekend with an 0-1 record after suffering a 78-49 season-opening loss to Colorado in the first round of the preseason WNIT.
OSU leads the all-time series with both schools, owning a 15-2 mark against TU and a 19-12 mark against ORU.
COMING UP
OSU will hit the road on Tuesday as the Cowgirls travel to Wichita, Kan., to
take on Wichita State at 7 p.m. in the first of four away games for OSU. The
Cowgirls and Shockers squared off last season at the Mabee Center in Tulsa,
with OSU prevailing 67-59. WSU finished last season with a 10-17 record
overall and an 8-10 mark in the Missouri Valley. The Cowgirls will close out
the road swing with three games at the Asahi Rainbow Wahine Classic in
Hawaii on Nov. 23-25.
LAST TIME OUT
The Cowgirls closed out the exhibition season with a 57-54 loss to the
Houston Jaguars on Tuesday night. The Jaguars held the Cowgirls to a
19-for-62 night from the floor, including a 4-of-24 performance from beyond
the three-point arc en route to the win. Despite their shooting woes, the
Cowgirls had a chance to send the game to overtime, but Kara Faulk's
three-point attempt was blocked as time expired. Tari Cummings led OSU with
14 points and seven rebounds.
