STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) - Maurice Baker scored 20 of his 26 points in the first half Saturday, including eight a 20-2 run that helped send Oklahoma State to a 74-58 victory over St. Gregory's.
Oklahoma State (12-3) trailed 10-4 against the NAIA opponent the Cowboys got going. Baker finished with a career-best seven 3-pointers and Oklahoma State had a season-high 12 from long range.
It was a homecoming for St. Gregory's coach Bryndon Manzer, who was raised in Stillwater and played at Oklahoma State from 1992-94. His Cavaliers (9-8) fell behind by as many as 17 in the first half, got back within nine early in the second, but never seriously threatened.
The Cowboys were sluggish in falling behind early. Then they took control by turning up the defensive pressure and hitting their shots from the perimeter.
Tyrone Mooreland scored 20 for the Cavaliers, whose lack of an inside scoring presence was offset a bit by 10 3-pointers.
Baker complemented his scoring with eight assists and five rebounds. Melvin Sanders, a sophomore junior-college transfer, had his best day at Oklahoma State, scoring 18 points. Fredrik Jonzen scored 14.
