STILLWATER, Okla. - Three Oklahoma State wrestlers were named to the National Wrestling Coaches Association Academic All-America Team.
Mark Munoz, a third-place finisher at the NCAA Championships at 197 pounds, earned first-team recognition, while Jeff Ragan was named to the second team and Tony Gansen captured honorable mention honors.
The NWCA's requires the student-athlete to maintain a 3.0 grade point average for recognition on its academic teams. First team members carry gpa's of 3.2 and higher, while second team and honorable mention team members range from 3.0 to 3.19.
The NWCA also recognizes the top 30 Division I wrestling teams based upon academic performance. The Cowboys ranked 19th with a team gpa of 2.9457. The Cowboys were the only school listed in the NWCA's top 20 to finish in the top five at the NCAA Championships.
Munoz, who just finished his junior season, retains a 3.223 gpa in the classroom. The Vallejo, Calif., native posted a 35-4 record on the mat, earning All-American honors for the first time.
