Howell Shoots Even-Par Final Round To Win The Maxwell

ARDMORE, Okla. -- Oklahoma State's Charles Howell carded an even-par final round Sunday and won The Maxwell by Pontiac by three strokes.
Howell led the third-ranked Cowboys to a third-place team finish, six strokes behind tournament champion Texas and three behind second-place Houston. The victory is the fourth of Howell's career and his second straight, and he became just the 10th OSU player to win back-to-back medalist honors. Howell had won the Big 12 Championship last month.
Edward Loar finished 5-over-par for the tournament and in sixth place individually, marking the ninth time in their careers that Howell and Loar have finished in the top 10 in the same tourney. In those events, OSU has finished first four times, second three times and third twice.
Anders Hultman recorded one of just three under-par Sunday rounds with a 68 and finished 11th at 7-over. Billy Lowry, competing as an individual, finished 43rd at 15-over, J.C. DeLeon (55th, 20-over) and Landry Mahan (67th, plus-24) rounded out the OSU lineup.
The Cowboys now begin postseason play in earnest when they compete in the NCAA Central Regional this coming Thursday through Saturday in Victoria, Texas.
