Cowgirls Fall To Aggies, 3-2, In Nine Innings

Oklahoma City, Okla.-- Liz Silva's home run in the top of the seventh inning wasn't enough as the fifth-seeded Oklahoma State Cowgirls dropped its opening game of the Big 12 Softball Tournament 2-1 to Texas A&M in nine innings at Don E. Porter/ASA Hall of Fame Stadium.
Head coach Sandy Fischer's Cowgirls fall to 33-21 on the season and return to action this afternoon at 3 p.m. in an elimination game against the Missouri Tigers.
With the Cowgirls trailing 2-1 headed into the top of the seventh inning, Silva blasted a 1-0 pitch over the center field fence to tie the game at 2-2.
Texas A&M, the fourth seed, won the game in the bottom of the ninth when Angie Long singled in Crystal Martin. Martin led off the inning with a walk followed by a Jamie Smith single. Angie Shelter then sacrificed the runners over before Long's game-winning hit.
The Aggies jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first after Lauren Bay, OSU's starting pitcher, issued a leadoff walk to Long. Long came around to score on a error by OSU shortstop Casey O'Neill.
The Cowgirls tied the game at 1-1 in the fifth inning on a solo home run by Christina Shaddox.
Texas A&M's starting pitcher Amy Vining improved to 18-12 on the season, while OSU's Bay fell to 15-13.
