Kipp Named To GTE Academic All-District Team

STILLWATER, Okla. -- Oklahoma State sophomore third baseman Jennifer Kipp is one of 11 student-athletes named today to the 2000 GTE Academic All-District VI Team in softball.
Kipp, who is enjoying a week of awards -- she was named Wednesday to the All-Big 12 and Academic All-Big 12 first teams -- is a business major from Gilbert, Ariz. She has compiled a 3.739 cumulative grade-point average, and she leads the Cowgirls with a .365 batting average, good enough for sixth in the Big 12. She also set a school record for consecutive successful stolen bases with 12.
Kipp is one of seven student-athletes named to both the All-Big 12 and Academic All-Big 12 first teams, and just four of those -- Kipp joins Baylor's Naomi Fitzgerald, Texas' Audrey Hendricks and Oklahoma's Lana Moran -- also made the academic all-district team. In all, six of the 11 all-district honorees hail from Big 12 schools.
Kipp joins her Oklahoma State teammates in competition at the Big 12 Tournament beginning today in Oklahoma City. The Cowgirls opened play with a 10 a.m. first pitch against Texas A&M this morning.
Along with the other 10 honorees, Kipp will represent District VI on the GTE Academic All-America national ballot. District VI is comprised of schools from the states of Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas. To be eligible for the team, student-athletes must be a starter or front-line reserve and must have at least a 3.20 overall grade-point average. The GTE Academic All-America Team for softball will be announced Thursday, June 8.
