Cowboy Bats Come Alive in 11-1 Win Over Purdue

STILLWATER, Okla. -- Luke Scott's three-run homer in the third inning propelled Oklahoma State to an 11-1 win over Purdue in baseball action Thursday night at Reynolds Stadium.
Boilermaker leadoff batter Chris Walker led off the game with a solo homer which proved to be the only run Cowboy starter Matt Smith would give up in 8.1 innings of work, his longest outing of the season. Smith scattered seven hits and struck out 12 with only one walk to improve to 6-6 on the year with the win.
The Cowboys snapped a four-game losing streak and improved to 28-18 while Purdue lost for the first time in eight games and fell to 30-15.
OSU tied the game in the third when Carl?s Gautreaux scored on a RBI single by Jimbo McAuliff. Ront? Langs followed McAuliff with a walk before Scott hit his homer to right field, his eighth of the season, to give the Pokes a 4-1 lead.
The Cowboys broke open the game with a seven-run eighth inning highlighted by Roy York's grand slam homer to right-center field, his 10th homer of the year.
Purdue starter Ben Quick took the loss with seven innings of five-hit ball. He walked three and struck out three while giving up five runs to fall to 5-4.
Walker finished the night 2-for-4 at the plate to lead the Boilermakers, while McAuliff led OSU with a 2-for-5 day at the plate with three RBIs.
The teams will be back in action in the second game of the three-game set tomorrow at 7 p.m. Tulsa Union product Mike Miller will be on the mound for the Cowboys.
