April 21, 2000
On Friday, April 21, 2000, the OSU POSSE will be hosting the First Annual O-State Internet Auction on www.okstate.com.
Featured in the auction will be several OSU related items, along with rare sports memorabilia pieces featuring Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle, and Lou Gehrig, just to name a few. The auction will begin at 8:00 a.m. central day light savings time on Friday, April 21, 2000, and will end at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 27, 2000. All money raised will go towards the OSU Student-Athlete Scholarship Fund. This auction is being held in conjunction with the annual O-State Dinner and Benefit Auctions in Tulsa, Friday, April 28 and in Oklahoma City, Saturday, May 13.
Items to be auctioned are:
#1 Autographed Game Used Mickey Mantle Jersey
That's right! This is the jersey Mickey Mantle wore in the 1989 Old Timers Game at the 1989 All-Star game, the last Old Timers game he ever played in. This is a very rare jersey and would be the perfect centerpiece for any serious collector. Undoubtedly one of the greatest baseball players ever, Mantle was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1974 with 88% of the votes. This magnificent jersey comes framed, with Mantle signing the jersey "This was my 1989 old timer's jersey, Mickey Mantle." Jersey comes with certificate of authenticity from Leland's Auction House in New York City.
#2 1934 Tour Of Japan Autographed Bat
This Louisville Slugger 125 Hillerich and Bradsby bat comes to us autographed by major leaguers' that went to Japan in 1934 to play teams from Japan. This bat comes with 15 autographs, featuring Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Connie Mack, Jimmie Foxx, and Lefty Gomez, to name just a few. However, there is one interesting autograph on the bat, that of Moe Berg. Berg was a player on the team, however, we don't know how much playing he did. What we do know is that while he was in Japan with the team, he was spying for the CIA. This bat comes with documentation from Robert E. Prouty, examiner of Questioned Documents. This documentation signifies that the signatures of Babe Ruth, Connie Mack, Jimmie Foxx, Lou Gehrig, Earl Averill, and Charles Gehringer are authentic. These signatures were authenticated using microscopic, low powered magnification, infrared, and ultraviolet examinations.
#3 A Vintage Piece of Baseball Nostalgia...Autographed Babe Ruth Photo
One of the most sought after autographs in the world of baseball is Babe Ruth. And well it should be as he is 2nd all-time in home runs hit with 714 and until 1961 held the record for most home runs in a season with 60. Not only is the name Ruth one of the most well known names in baseball, it has inspired its own verbiage, "Ruthisms". This piece comes beautifully framed and matted and features a black and white photograph of the Babe and is autographed in black ink. The signature comes with documents signifying that it is an original signature, with "no unnatural pen lifts or breaks in the...signature". The documents come from Robert E. Prouty, Examiner of Questioned Documents.
#4 Chair From Gallagher-Iba Arena
Taken from the hallowed halls of Gallagher-Iba, this arena chair would be the perfect centerpiece of anyone's OSU memorabilia collection. Just imagine all of the great games this chair has seen over its life-time.
#5 Brick From Gallagher-Iba Arena
Relive some of the greatest moments in OSU history: the Cowboys victory over Wilt Chamberlin and the Jayhawks, Mitch Shelton pinning "Dr. Death", when the Cowgirls beat Michigan State in three overtimes' to advance to the Sweet 16, and "Big Country's" half-court shot against Missouri. All of these great memories can be yours with one of the first bricks taken off of the original Gallagher-Iba Arena, The Rowdiest Arena In The Country"!
#6 Football Autographed By Barry Sanders
Even though he retired a year ago, one could argue that Barry is the greatest running back of all-time. We all remember his fantastic runs as he broke almost every rushing record in NCAA history on his way to the 1988 Heisman Trophy. Now you can own a piece of memorabilia from the greatest running back of all-time with this Barry Sanders' autographed football.
#7 Authentic Game Used Andre Williams Cowboy Basketball Jersey
This outstanding Cowboy freshman electrified the crowd of Gallagher-Iba this season on many occasions with his incredible leaping ability and shot blocking skills. Now you can own one of the jerseys Andre actually wore during the 1999-2000 season. We are in the process of trying to have Andre sign his jersey for us. If we get the jersey signed, we will change the item description.
#8 Authentic Game Used Fredrik Jonzen Cowboy Basketball Jersey
One of the most improved players this past season in the Big 12, Fredrik was one of the anchors in the middle for the Cowboys as they made it all the way to the Elite 8. Fredrik was such a dominant player in the Cowboys post-season run that he was voted to the All East Regional Team. We are in the process of trying to have Fredrik sign his jersey for us. If we get the jersey signed, we will change the item description.

How Will You Be Able To Tie In The Internet Auction With The Auctions In Tulsa And Oklahoma City?
The process is rather simple. From 8:00 a.m. central day light savings time Friday, April 21 until 5:00 p.m. central day light savings time Thursday, April 27, you will be bidding on the items as you would in any other internet auction. When the internet auction is over, the high bid for item #1 and #3 will be carried over to the live auction in Tulsa and will be the starting price in Tulsa. The same will take place for item #2 but it will be placed in the live auction in Oklahoma City. To allow the bidders on the internet an equal opportunity to purchase the item(s) they are bidding on, we will allow the top two bidders for each item the opportunity to compete (via proxy) in the live auction where the item they are bidding on is being auctioned.
After the internet auction is complete, the top two bidders for each item will be contacted to arrange for bid by proxy for the item(s) which are being bid on. This way bidders will be able to keep up with the item(s) via the telephone with one of our staff members. In the event that someone has beat your bid, you will have the opportunity to increase your bid by proxy until you are the last remaining bidder or you have been out bid.
