OSU HOSTS BAYLOR - Oklahoma State's 20th-ranked softball team will host the Baylor Bears in Big 12 Conference action on Sunday, April 2, at 1 p.m. in doubleheader action. OSU is coming off a split of a doubleheader with Iowa State Friday afternoon, losing the first game, 4-2, in eight innings before winning the second, 3-2, in eight innings. Baylor is 19-19 overall and 1-1 in league play. The Bears are coming off a split with the Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners on Wednesday.
COMING UP - Following this weekend's games, the Cowgirls will play the seventh-ranked Oklahoma Sooners (36-5, 2-0) on Wednesday, April 5, at 6:30 p.m. The site of the game has yet to be determined, although it will either be at Cowgirl Stadium or at Don E. Porter/ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in OKC.

LAST TIME OUT - Christina Shaddox hit a pinch-hit home run to lead off the eighth inning, propelling the Cowgirls to a 3-2 win in the second game of a doubleheader over Iowa State. ISU won the first game, 4-2, in eight innings. In the first game, ISU scored the go-ahead run in the eighth on an RBI single by Cinnamon Gooding, and the 'Clones added an insurance run on a base hit by Lauren Cathey for the 4-2 score. Karla Rivera gave up four runs, three earned in seven innings, dropping to 9-3. Game two was similar to the first. OSU took a 2-0 lead in the first on four hits. ISU cut the lead in half in the third on a passed ball, and tied the score in the fifth on a sacrifice fly. OSU had a couple of scoring opportunities, stranding runners at third in the third, fifth and sixth. Shaddox sent the first pitch over the leftfield fence,her fourth homer of the season, and the third by a pinch hitter for OSU this year.
COWGIRLS ON THE AIR - Eight of Oklahoma State's remaining games this season are scheduled to be broadcast by Stillwater Radio. Bill Van Ness will provide the play-by-play. Both games on Sunday will be broadcast on KSPI-780 AM.
COWGIRLS IN THE NATIONAL POLL - Oklahoma State dropped to 20th in the NFCA Coaches Poll after a two-week stint at 18th. The Cowgirls reached No. 17 three weeks ago, their highest ranking since a No. 15 ranking in the 1999 preseason poll. FISCHER REACHES 800TH VICTORY - With a 6-2 win over Drake on Feb. 20, Head Coach Sandy Fischer became just the fifth softball coach in NCAA history to reach the 800-victory plateau. She is currently 816-324-3 (.715) in her 22nd season at Oklahoma State. She is just the third active coach to reach that milestone, as Fresno State's Margie Wright and Bill Galloway of Louisiana Tech did so two seasons ago. Fischer's all-time NFCA record, which includes games played during the falls of 1979-81, is 864-340-3 (.717). Also, the game vs. Virginia Tech in the Speedline Invitational was Fischer's 1,200th career game at OSU. She is just the second coach in OSU history to coach in at least 1,200 contests, following baseball's Gary Ward, who coached in 1,265 games.
LEFTSIDE OF INFIELD DOING WELL AT THE PLATE - The Oklahoma State duo of Jenny Kipp and Casey O'Neill, both sophomores and the starters on the left side of the infield, have been doing well at the plate. Kipp is batting .365 while O'Neill is batting .362. They have combined for 65 hits, 32 runs, nine doubles and 23 RBIs. Both signed in 1997 with Oklahoma State, Kipp from Arizona and O'Neill from San Diego, Calif.
FRESHMAN HURLERS TAKING CHARGE - With the loss of senior pitcher Sarah Knife Chief to shoulder surgery, two star freshmen have taken over the pitching duties for Oklahoma State. Karla Rivera, from Whittier, Calif., has a record of 9-3 and a 1.99 earned run average. She has given up just 83 hits in 91-2/3 innings pitched. Lauren Bay, >from Trail, British Columbia, is 10-7 this season with a 2.13 ERA and 127 strikeouts in 111 innings, 7.96 Ks per game.
SUBS SHOWING OFF - In 74 plate appearances this season as pinch hitters, the Oklahoma State bench is batting .345, has scored 28 runs and has 18 RBIs. The bench crew is led by sophomore Courtney Pinion, who is batting .750 in pinch-hit situations, going 6-for-8. She also has four RBIs and a .875 slugging percentage. Friday vs. Iowa State, senior Christina Shaddox hit a leadoff, first-pitch home run over the leftfield fence as a pinch hitter. On the mound, freshman Lauren Bay is 3-1 with three saves as a reliever, and has a 0.82 ERA with 48 strikeouts in 34-1/3 innings, while giving up a .172 batting average to opponent hitters.
MISCELLANEOUS NOTES & STATISTICS - Here is a look at some miscellaneous notes and statistics concerning the Cowgirl softball program ...
- Sophomore Jenny Kipp tied one record and set another in the Cowgirls' 3-2 win over Iowa State Friday evening. She tied the school record for stolen bases in a game, three set by Amanda Hayes last season. She also broke the previous school record for consecutive successful stolen bases, which was 11, set by Mary Hammen in 1988. Kipp now has 12 consecutive SBs.
- The Cowgirls are batting .341 vs. left-handed pitchers, .284 vs. right-handed pitchers.
- OSU is batting just .261 with the bases empty, but .315 with runners on base, including a .410 average by Kirsty Jennings in 61 at-bats.
- The Cowgirls are batting .404 with the bases loaded, led by Kirsty Jennings .600 average.
- Oklahoma State has 53 two-out RBIs, led by Kirsty Jennings and Christina Shaddox, who each have seven.
- The Cowgirls have been successful 59.3 percent of the time of scoring a runner when on third base with less than two outs.
- Cowgirls leading off an inning are batting .405, including seven regulars that are batting at least .400 - Jenny Kipp (.526), Ryan Realmuto (.471), Shelly Graham (.429), Amanda Hayes (.415), Lezli Leathers (.412) and Casey O'Neill (.409).
- Freshman LHP Lauren Bay has forced 145 groundouts and just 52 flyouts, a ratio of of nearly 3-to-1.
- Sophomore Jenny Kipp leads the team in both sacrifice bunts (11) and sacrifice flies (2).
- Lauren Bay has three saves this season, and needs just one more to tie the school single-season record of four, set by Lori Whitehouse in 1986.
- Of Bay's 127 strikeouts, 37 have been called strikeouts.
- With 15 home runs this season, the Cowgirls have already more than doubled their home-run total of last season, six.
SERIES WITH BAYLOR - Oklahoma State leads the all-time series with Baylor, 12-4, including a sweep of last season's games played in Stillwater.
