Softball Prepares For Wichita State

STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's 18th-ranked softball team travels to Wichita, Kan., this Wednesday for doubleheader action against the Wichita State Shockers. Game time is set for 4 p.m. at Wilkins Stadium.
The Cowgirls are 24-11 overall this season and 1-1 in Big 12 Conference play after a split with the Texas Tech Red Raiders over the weekend. WSU is 9-15 overall, 2-0 in Missouri Valley Conference action after a sweep of St. Louis last weekend.
OSU owns an impressive 56-1 mark vs. the Shockers all-time, including a 55-game winning streak. Wichita State's only win in the series came in 1978, one year prior to OSU coach Sandy Fischer's arrival in Stillwater.
The Cowgirls are led at the plate by sophomore shortstop Casey O'Neill, who is batting .375 with 16 runs scored and 13 runs batted in. She is joined in the .300-plus club by third baseman Jenny Kipp (.359 average, 15 runs, 9-of-9 on stolen bases), freshman Kirsty Jennings (.344 average, 28 RBIs, eight doubles, two home runs) and senior centerfielder Shelly Graham (.326 average, 17 runs, 9-of-12 on stolen-base attempts).
On the mound, OSU has two freshman, joined recently by the return of sophomore Annie Gunderson. Left-handed pitcher Lauren Bay is 9-7 this season with a 2.25 earned run average and 122 strikeouts. Right-handed hurler Karla Rivera is 9-2 with a 1.90 ERA and 60 strikeouts.
This Friday, the Cowgirls will host Iowa State in the first conference home game of the season. Game time for the doubleheader is set at 3 p.m. The game location has yet to be determined. OSU will host Baylor on Saturday and Sunday, and both games are scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
