Oklahoma State Softball Hosts Cowgirl Classic

STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's 18th-ranked softball team will host its annual Cowgirl Classic this weekend, starting at 9 a.m. on Friday and concluding Saturday night with a 5 p.m. game. Other teams competing in the tournament are Creighton (14-6), Southwest Missouri State (8-11), Tulsa (9-19) and Wichita State (7-15).
The tournament will kick off at 9 a.m. Friday, with Southwest Missouri State facing Wichita State. At 11 a.m., Wichita State will play Tulsa, followed by Oklahoma State's first game, vs. SMS, at 1 p.m. The Cowgirls will stay on the field and play Creighton at 3 p.m., and the day will be concluded with TU vs. Creighton at 5 p.m.
On Saturday, Wichita State will play Creighton at 9 a.m., followed by Creighton-Southwest Missouri State at 11 a.m. The SMS Bears will play Tulsa at 1 p.m., and OSU will play WSU at 3 p.m. The tournament will end with OSU hosting in-state rival Tulsa at 5 p.m.
The tournament is a round-robin format, with each team playing every other team. The champion will be decided by overall record. The games will be played at Little Couch Park in Stillwater. One-day session tickets are $5 for adults, and $3 for senior citizens and youth. OSU students with the All-Sports Ticket are admitted free.

NOTES:
- The Cowgirls are 23-9 this season and coming off a doubleheader sweep of the Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners Tuesday afternoon. OSU is led by sophomore Casey O'Neill, who is currently batting .373 with 16 runs scored. She is followed by Jenny Kipp, who is batting .366 with 14 runs, five doubles and a triple, and Kirsty Jennings, who is batting .361 with eight doubles, two home runs and a team-high 28 runs batted in.
- On the mound, freshmen Karla Rivera and Lauren Bay share starting duties. Rivera is 9-2 with a 1.73 earned run average in 15 starts, while Bay has an 8-5 record with a 2.00 ERA and 102 strikeouts in 87-2/3 innings.
- Head coach Sandy Fischer, in her 23rd year at the helm of the Cowgirl program, recently reached her 800th-career NCAA victory. She is currently 814-321-3 in NCAA-sanctioned games, and 852-372-3 overall in her career.
- Since the Cowgirl Classic began in 1993, Oklahoma State is 22-3 in the tournament, which took a one-year hiatus last season.
