Cowgirls Win 3-of-4 In Speedline Invitational

TAMPA, Fla. -- Oklahoma State's 17th-ranked softball team won 3-of-4 games here late Thursday night and Friday in the Speedline Invitational Tournament, hosted by the University of South Florida. The Cowgirls lost to Georgia, 5-0, Thursday night before reeling off three wins vs. Ball State, Temple and Tennessee Tech.
After the Georgia loss, the Cowgirls came back behind fine pitching by freshman Karla Rivera and defeated Ball State, 1-0. The Whittier, Calif., native threw a three-hit shutout. Meanwhile, the Cowgirls scored their only run of the game on a sacrifice fly in the fourth, which scored Kirsty Jennings who had reached on a double.
Against Temple, OSU scored four runs in the top of the third and added one in the seventh for a 5-2 win. The Cowgirls used five straight hits in the fourth, including a two-run single by Jennings, to score the runs.
In the final game against Tennessee Tech, OSU scored four in the bottom of the third and added one in the fourth for a 5-1 victory. Rivera gave up just one while scattering four hits. Four Cowgirl doubles, including three in the third, were four of the 12 hits by OSU.
Oklahoma State (20-7) will play Iowa Saturday at 11 a.m. CST. Bracket play will begin at 5 p.m.
