Cowgirls Sweep Oklahoma City Stars

STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's Cowgirl softball team took three wins in a tripleheader scrimmage with No. 2-ranked NAIA Oklahoma City here Tuesday afternoon, winning by scores of 8-5, 3-2 and 2-1. The victories did not come easy.
In the first game, OCU took an early 1-0 lead when Stacy Polonich scored on a double by Christy Liu. OSU responded in the bottom of the inning, however, when sophomore Paula Garman hit a two-run home run over the centerfield fence.
The Stars tied the game with a run in the second, and went ahead with another in the third. Cowgirl freshman Kirsty Jennings hit a two-run dinger to the opposite field to put OSU up, and freshman Ryan Realmuto scored on a throwing error by the catcher to add an insurance run.
OCU tied the game in the top of the fifth on one hit and a couple of errors, sending the game into extra innings. Senior hurler Sarah Knife Chief shut down the Stars in the top of the sixth, and another Garman homer, this one a three-run shot, won the game for OSU.
In game two, Oklahoma State appeared to have the game in hand after scoring a single run in the second and two more in the third on two hits and two errors, but OCU rallied in the top of the fifth, scoring two runs on four straight hits before freshman Karla Rivera forced Liu to ground out with a runner on to end the game.
In the final game, OSU took a 1-0 lead in the third when Stephanie Hodges led off with a walk, and made it to third after Nicci Quiroz's attempted sacrifice bunt was dropped. Hodges then scored on an RBI single by Shelly Graham.
Oklahoma City tied the game on a solo homer off the bat of Liu to open the fourth inning. In the bottom of the fifth, the pitching duel turned into a walkfest, as Graham led off with a base hit, followed by another off the bat of Casey O'Neill. With one out, Realmuto was intentionally walked, and senior Liz Silva drew a bases loaded walk for the win.
Oklahoma State will open regular-season action this weekend as the Cowgirls travel to Grand Prairie, Texas, to compete in the UTA Intercollegiate Tournament.
